Wondering why your coworkers from outside the city are taking so long to get to the office on the first day of summer? Not their fault! A transformer fire in Brunswick, New Jersey, brought Amtrak and NJ Transit along parts of the northeast corridor to a standstill early this morning.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but Amtrak and NJ Transit services are back up and running—with lots of delays. However because of the residual delays, buses and PATH trains are honoring NJ Transit rail tickets.
"Once we have this sort of incident, it takes many, many hours to recover," NJ Transit spokesperson Penny Basset Hackett said. "Even if we got service back up by 7:30 a.m., there would still be an impact to our customers."
It is suspected the morning's fire will not affect tonight's commute.
