A 40-year-old man has been sentenced to one year in jail for killing and dismembering a bulldog in New Rochelle late last year, authorities said.

Benjamin Tyler pleaded guilty to aggravated cruelty to animals, a felony, and was sentenced this week in Westchester Supreme Court, officials said.

According to prosecutors, Tyler strangled the dog, an English bulldog named Bruno, on or around Dec. 6, 2024. Bruno belonged to a longtime acquaintance of Tyler, who had been staying at the person’s home, officials said.

After killing the dog, Tyler dismembered the animal and scattered the remains throughout the neighborhood, according to authorities.

“The defendant will have a year in jail to think about his despicable actions. Cruelty to animals is unacceptable," Westchester County District Attorney Susan Cacace said in a statement. "Our office will continue to aggressively prosecute those who violate these kinds of laws.”

Tyler's attorney information was not immediately available.
