Even after these intense storms we’ve seen so far this month, the weather just keeps raging Saturday as a thunderstorm warning and watch were issued for parts of New York City and New Jersey.
The warning by the National Weather Service is expected to last through 3:30p.m. for New York City and 3:45 p.m. on Saturday for New Jersey, but Thunderstorm Watch is expected to last until 11p.m. for most of the East Coast. On top of thunderstorm watches and warnings, parts of New Jersey are also under a Flash Flood Warning until 4:15p.m. and Flood Advisory until 11 p.m. Saturday. There was also a Tornado Warning issued for Staten Island until 3:45 p.m.
The severe thunderstorm warning was issued for parts of eastern New Jersey, along with parts of Manhattan, including the Lower East Side, SoHo, the East Village, Midtown, and the Upper West Side. The storm made itself known over at Newark Airport around 2pm, where wind gusts were recorded at 52 m.p.h. The NWS also warned of pea- to quarter-size hail in the region.
The NWS warned New Yorkers to “take shelter” as the storm moved across the region, recommending they also “move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.”
Just after 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, the city Department of Buildings warned property owners to secure any loose materials that could injure anyone, warning that winds could reach upwards of 60 mph or higher.
NWS had tracked the path of the storm hours before it hit NYC.
The NWS also issued a heat advisory that'll last through 8p.m. Saturday.
