An MTA worker was stabbed twice in the armpit after a verbal dispute in the mezzanine of the Pelham Park subway station in the Bronx Thursday morning, according to NYPD officials.
Police and the MTA said the 47-year-old worker was a station cleaner. Officials with the man’s union, TWU Local 100, said representatives were with him at Jacobi Medical Center Thursday and police said he was in stable condition.
Police said the man suspected of the attack fled on foot and the investigation is ongoing.
As of October of 2024, attacks on New York City Transit workers fell compared to the same period in 2023. In the first 10 months of 2023 there were 69 assaults on subway workers, compared with 40 in 2024.
