Sometimes it's adventuresome goats, sometimes it's two small small kittens with an iron will to explore, sometimes it's raccoons seeding chaos into your subway commute. Today, it was a duck. A duck who'd run amok on the N tracks.
The NY Daily News reports that, around noon, a subway supervisor spotted a duck plodding along the subway rails near the Eighth Avenue station in Brooklyn. Splashing around in a pungent trash stream? Who's to say! Whatever this little beakface was up to down there, its presence may explain why the operator threw on the brakes, thereby seeding delays along the line. (Which has, historically, been the preferred line of our waterfowl friends.)
Speaking to the Daily News, MTA spokesperson Shams Tarek denied that the duck stalled service at all, instead pointing the figure at some other, unnamed forces. All I'm saying is the timeline checks out, but then, when it comes to subway delays, anything is possible.
In any case, it reportedly took over an hour to extract the allegedly blameless bird from the tracks, a feat finally achieved around 1:20 p.m. We are eagerly awaiting word on Subway Duck's new home, which would ideally be on Jon Stewart's lap en route to an upstate animal sanctuary. It has happened before, it could happen again, please just keep your fingers crossed, okay??
Anyway, speaking of ducks:
