An MTA bus fatally struck a woman crossing the street in Queens on Thursday, the NYPD said. As of Friday, the driver — whose identity the NYPD did not disclose — is not yet facing any charges, police said.
Police said the incident remains under investigation.
The incident occurred shortly after 6 a.m. Thursday, when a bus being driven by a 48-year-old man hit an unidentified woman walking southbound on 31st Street, in the Ditmars-Steinway neighborhood, police said. They said the woman was 50 to 60 years old.
Police said the woman was on a crosswalk but did not have a walk signal.
The bus driver remained on scene while emergency medical service workers transported the woman to a hospital in Elmhurst, where she was later pronounced deceased, police said.
The incident is still being investigated by NYPD Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad, police said.
The MTA said Friday the driver had not been suspended, but would not work passenger service during the investigation.
This story has been updated with a comment from the MTA.
