First came the media, and now the mosquitos! Rockaway is making headlines again as a flock of the winged vampires has descended upon the once peaceful beachside neighborhood. According to the Daily News, "just a few short miles from the beaches, playgrounds sit empty and patio furniture is off-limits as summer has been hijacked by swarms of mosquitoes." That's so Bart's People!

One local says it's so bad that they've locked her grandson inside, and another is hoping for West Nile so the city will spray—he told the paper, "We're in the impossible situation of almost hoping we get West Nile-positive mosquitoes or dead birds here so they will spray." Currently no West Nile has been detected. City Councilman James Sanders Jr. claims he put money in the budget for spraying, but "the city says it doesn't do so-called nuisance spraying."

There does seem to be an influx of mosquitos this year, have you noticed more in your own neighborhood?
