Thanks to that 5 a.m. thunderstorm, we didn't need our alarm clock this morning. Three quarters of an inch of rain fell in that deluge, making today the rainiest day of the month. More showers and thunderstorms are expected later today as a half-dead occluded front slowly makes its way eastward across the region. By itself the front doesn't look like much of a weather maker but, as you may have noticed, the air mass it is displacing contains gobs of moisture. Be prepared for gusty winds, heavy rain and impressive lightning displays this afternoon and evening. The heavy cloud cover will keep today's temperatures in the 70s.
Drier weather should be on tap for tomorrow. The surface front and upper level low should be well to our east by then, allowing for mostly sunny skies and a high in the mid 80s in the city. There's a slight chance of isolated showers but the Weather Service currently believes that will be more of a Connecticut and Long Island thing.
Sunday's weather is all mixed up. Another storm system will be approaching from the Ohio Valley. That will be enough to suggest a mix of sun and clouds along with scattered showers and thunderstorms with a high in the lower 80s. Highs in the low 80s should prevail as spring turns into summer next week.
