The Metro-North Railroad has rolled out its latest addition to its "Heritage Series," a commemorative locomotive wrapped in the historic colors of the New Haven Railroad.
It's the sixth locomotive in the series, marking Metro-North’s 40 years of service and paying tribute to the railroads that previously operated its routes.
The newly unveiled locomotive, No. 222, is a Genesis-model P32AC-DM wrapped in an olive green and dandelion yellow design that dates back to 1954, the MTA said in a statement. It will make its first official run on Friday, Feb. 28, departing from Danbury station at 7:51 a.m. and arriving at Grand Central Terminal at 9:55 a.m.

“The Heritage Series honors and educates Metro-North customers about the railroad’s rich history,” Metro-North Railroad President Catherine Rinaldi said in a statement. “We hope our customers enjoy the addition of the vintage colors of the then New Haven Railroad and that the new locomotive sparks some curiosity about the predecessor railroads that paved the way for Metro-North.”
Metro-North introduced the Heritage Series in May 2023 to highlight its history. Previous locomotives in the series have featured designs from railroads such as Penn Central, New York Central and Conrail. One locomotive honored Metro-North’s workforce, featuring a mosaic of employee photos forming images of key locations across its network.
All six commemorative locomotives are in active service and can be spotted on Metro-North’s Hudson, Harlem and New Haven Lines.
