Mayor Zohran Mamdani is set to host President Donald Trump at Gracie Mansion on Monday.
This will be the third meeting between the two men. Mamdani met with Trump at the White House last November, just after winning the mayor's race, and then again — as mayor — earlier this year. Tomorrow's meeting will be the first on the mayor's home turf.
The mayor's office only described the meeting as focusing on "issues affecting New York City and New Yorkers."
The president will be in New York to address the annual gathering of world leaders at the United Nations — a week-long event expected to be marked by daily protests, heavy security and street closures throughout Midtown.
The Republican president and the mayor, a democratic socialist, have enjoyed a surprisingly cordial relationship, and spoken of shared interests in affordability. When the two met in February for an unscheduled Oval Office meeting, Mamadani pitched Trump on a plan to build 12,000 units of housing over Sunnyside Yard in Western Queens.
At that meeting, the mayor presented Trump with a mock Daily News front page with the headline “Trump to City: Let’s Build."
