Mayor proclaimed that the city would be just fine today (morning commute, sidewalks). He did recommend that New Yorkers take mass transit to get around. He made his remarks while at the Prospect Park Sledding Contest, where the Mayor used his clout to bum a ride off from competitors. Newsday has the account:
"I came in first!" Mayor Bloomberg yelled, neglecting to mention that his team was the sole entrant in the race.
His teammates, Wayne Batcheler, 61, of Manhattan, and his friend, Ellen Mendlow, of Park Slope, said the mayor surprised them when he asked to ride with them on Batcheler's antique, 91/2-foot, wood toboggan.
"He said he remembered this kind of sled when he was a boy," said Batcheler, who added that the craft was probably made in the 1920s or 1930s and that he bought it a decade ago in Vermont.
Oh, my God, we can't stop laughing, it's all so Rosebud. Anyway, the Mayor also announced a trip to Haiti for next month, his first ever, and now our Mayoral envy is growing, as we like the jacket he was wearing during the first snowstorm briefing on Friday.
