A man was shot and killed inside a Midtown subway station Saturday afternoon, police said.
The NYPD said the shooting took place on a platform at the 53rd Street and 7th Avenue station, which serves the B, D and E lines. It stemmed from a dispute on the platform, police said, but it's unclear if the victim knew his killer.
The man was shot in the chest and transported to Bellevue Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival just after 1 p.m., police said. The NYPD says it's looking for a specific "person of interest" in connection with the murder.
The MTA referred all questions to the NYPD.
Uptown E trains were running on the F line between West 4th Street–Washington Square and Jackson Heights–Roosevelt Avenue, and uptown D trains were bypassing the station while police investigated, according to MTA service alerts.
As of Oct. 11, four people had been shot in the transit system this year, up from two over the same period in 2025, according to statistics from the NYPD.
This is a developing story based on preliminary police information and will be updated.
