Police said on Monday that a man was stabbed to death at his home in Harlem on Sunday afternoon.

Alejandro Santos, 47, was found unconscious and unresponsive with stab wounds near West 147th Street and Frederick Douglass Boulevard after the NYPD received a 911 call about a person stabbed shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Santos was transported to Harlem Hospital and pronounced dead, according to police officials.

On Tuesday morning, police said they arrested Michelle Hernandez, a 44-year-old listed with the same home address as Santos’, on second-degree murder charges on Monday afternoon in the 32nd Precinct.

NYPD officials said Hernandez was Santos’ girlfriend, adding that the stabbing stemmed from a domestic dispute but the nature of the couple’s argument was unclear. After the attack, Santos banged on a neighbor’s door, saying “she stabbed me,” according to the officials.

Police could not immediately say whether the couple had a history of domestic disputes but said that Santos had an extensive criminal record involving drug-related charges.

NYPD data shows that the 32nd Precinct, which encompasses north central Harlem, has recorded two homicides so far this year, compared to three by this point last year.
