Police say a man has died more than a year after being shot in the hip by his ex-girlfriend in the Bronx.
The death of Kennso Morikawa-Hernandez, 31, could lead to murder charges against Ana Fernandez, 51, who was originally charged with assault in the incident.
Officials said Morikawa-Hernandez was found in the alley behind 1242 Manor Ave. in the Bronx just after midnight on Feb. 13 of last year. He was transported to Saint Barnabas Hospital in critical condition.
Fernandez, who lived at the address, was arrested the next day, authorities said.
Morikawa-Hernandez died of his injuries last Saturday — 13 months later — and the medical examiner ruled it a homicide, NYPD said. Police officials said Morikawa-Hernandez was homeless.
Lawyer and contact information for Fernandez wasn’t immediately available.
Officials in the Bronx district attorney’s office said Fernandez was never detained and her prosecution was deferred pending further investigation.
A spokesperson for the office declined to comment, citing the open investigation.
