A man walking two dogs and carrying a bat beat a man on a Williamsburg sidewalk Tuesday morning, police say.
The assault happened around 9:30 a.m. near River Street and North 3rd Street. A police spokesperson said that just before the beating, the 58-year-old man remarked, "You're not going to hit me with that bat," to the dog owner, who then allegedly swung the bat at him.
According to police, the victim ran away, but the assailant "chased him, knocked him to the ground and struck him several times with the bat" before fleeing west on North 3rd Street. The victim was treated for a laceration to the head and bruising to the body by EMS.
Video shows an unidentified man walking his dogs with the bat, and then beating the victim:
The suspect is described as a male, 30 to 35 years old, 6'0" and 200 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black do-rag, a black jacket with a design on its back, gray and white camouflage pants and gray sneakers. He was walking with two small black dogs. Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime stoppers website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter TIP577.
