A subway rider was beaten with a hammer and thrown onto the trackbed in an anti-gay attack in the Bronx early this morning.
A police spokesperson said the incident happened just after 1 a.m. on Friday at the Tremont Avenue station. The 21-year-old victim was waiting for a D train when police say he got involved in a verbal dispute with another man, who is believed to be in his 30s. Cops say the suspect took out a hammer and started striking the victim, making "anti-gay statements" as he assaulted him. He then fled the location.
The Daily News adds that the suspect allegedly yelled “Fu**ing fa**ot!” during the attack, and flung him onto the tracks. The victim was able to get himself back onto the platform on his own before the next train arrived.
The victim was taken to St. Barnabus hospital in stable condition. No arrest has been made as of yet, and the Hate Crime Task Force is investigating the incident.
