A man has been arrested for allegedly stabbing two men, killing one of them, after they opened a subway gate for him in the Bronx.
The fatal assault happened around 4:30 a.m. Saturday at the Morrison Ave.-Soundview Station. A police spokesperson said that they found two men with stab wounds to the torso near the mezzanine area of the southbound 6 line. One of those men, 25-year-old Rudolph Dunning, was transported to Saint Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The other, whose name has not been released, was taken to NYC Health & Hospitals/Jacobi in stable condition.
Investigators believe Ramziddin Trowell, 42, had asked the two men to open the subway gate for him; afterwards, they got into some sort of argument that culminated in the stabbing. Trowell has now been arrested and charged with murder, attempted murder, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon.
Dunning's family spoke to the Daily News, telling them he worked full-time and aspired to be a fashion designer, and that his birthday was last week. “Rudy opened the door for you not knowing you would take his life," the victim’s aunt Sherry Sutton told them. “You asked him to open the door, my nephew opened it. And then you take his fucking life.” The family also said the other victim was Dunning’s 28-year-old cousin, and that he is recovering from tab wounds in the chest, back and hand.
"As soon as they said [Dunning] let him in, I knew it was Rudy. Because Rudy’s kindhearted. That was him. He really kept me sane," the victim's cousin Jada Ragin said. “He was always helping. Whenever I was in my feelings or something, he would help me. And he would actually listen."
