A 75-year-old man was struck and killed in Queens on Wednesday morning while he was pulled over to the side of the Long Island Expressway, police said.
The man was working under the hood of his car on the westbound side of the highway, near the Clearview Expressway, when a tractor trailer driver going in the same direction struck the parked car around 5:05 a.m., NYPD officials said.
The parked car then hit the 75-year-old man, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Police did not immediately release his name as they worked to notify his family.
The 59-year-old driver of the tractor trailer stayed at the scene and was not charged, according to police. The NYPD’s Highway Collision Investigation Squad was looking into the incident.
This is a developing story based on preliminary information from police and may be updated.
