Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic mayoral nominee for New York City mayor, has raised more than $1 million in the latest filing period according to campaign finance reports released Friday.

That’s nearly twice as much as his rivals: former Gov. Andrew Cuomo brought in $540,000, Mayor Eric Adams raised $425,000, and Republican Curtis Sliwa followed with about $406,000.

Between July 12 and August 18, Mamdani received an average donation of $121 from more than 8,000 donors, per the filings.

Of the three other major mayoral contenders, only Sliwa — the Republican — came close to that level of small-donor support. He had 4,400 donors with an average donation of $92, whereas Adams and Cuomo had only 552 and 732 contributors with an average of $699 and $770, respectively.

Overall, Mamdani’s campaign has nearly $4.4 million ready to spend and is awaiting more money in matching funds from the New York City Campaign Finance Board, once the tallies are certified. Any candidate who raises small-dollar donations from city residents is eligible for an 8-to-1 match.

The city Campaign Finance Board has denied the Adams campaign matching funds this cycle due to incomplete paperwork and ongoing investigations into potentially illegal donations. Cuomo has yet to qualify for matching funds since losing the Democratic primary in June.

Recent polling from the Siena Research Institute shows Mamdani up by 19 points over other candidates who split the vote.
