Tonight we turn back the clocks for Daylight Savings Time, and get to sleep in two hours later than normal (that's how this works right?), and tomorrow we will awaken to the start of the 41st ING NYC Marathon! More than 43,000 people, including Chilean miner Edison Pena, are expected to run in the race, which starts at the Verrazano Narrows Bridge in Staten Island and takes runners all the way through the four other boroughs, ending in Central Park near West 67th Street.
The professional women's race will start at 9:10 a.m., half an hour before the men's race. There will be a lot of street closings throughout the day which you can find a full list of here. You can see a map of the full course here, and some tips for spectators and supporters here. If you're watching the marathon and want to share your pictures, email them to [email protected] or tag them "gothamist" on Flickr. And just remember: you have to come in under 4 hours and a 30 minutes to make it into the NY Times special marathon section. And that really is what the marathon is all about.
