A veteran NBC News employee has died after testing positive for COVID-19, the company confirmed on Friday.
Larry Edgeworth, 61, was pronounced dead on Thursday. He worked as an audio technician at NBC's 30 Rockefeller Plaza headquarters for the past 25 years, according to a memo sent to staff by NBC News Chairman Andy Lack.
"Many of you were fortunate enough to work with Larry over the years, so you know that he was the guy you wanted by your side no matter where you were," Lack wrote of the “longtime member of our NBC News family."
Edgeworth is survived by his wife and two children. His wife told the newsroom that he suffered from other health issues that led him to succumb to the illness, per the memo.
Several NBC News staffers offered warm tributes to their colleague on Friday.
MSNBC correspondent Garrett Haake recalled Edgeworth being "SO proud of his kids," and "hilarious."
"I adored him," Today Show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie wrote on Twitter. "He was full of spirit and joy and humor. He was the pro of pros. We traveled in 2008 on a campaign plane for two months. He was a bright light every day."
NBC is one of several news organizations that have reported cases among their employees. CBS News, CNN, Condé Nast, Vox Media, and The New York Times have all had staff test positive for the virus , according to the Daily Beast.
As of Friday morning, there were 5,151 recorded cases of COVID-19 across the five boroughs, and 29 fatalities.
