A 26-year-old New York City reporter was killed this weekend while riding on the back of a Revel scooter in Brooklyn, a police spokesperson confirmed.

Nina Kapur, a TV reporter with CBS2, was thrown to the roadway on Franklin Street in Greenpoint on Saturday after the driver of the electric moped she was riding "swerved for an unknown reason," according to Detective Denise Moroney, an NYPD spokesperson.

She was transported to Bellevue Hospital shortly after 5:30 p.m. where she was pronounced deceased. The 26-year-old driver of the moped sustained minor injuries.

Kapur's death appears to be the first fatality of a Revel rider since the scooter-sharing company arrived in New York City two summers ago. Police said that she was riding as a passenger on a "2020 Motorcycle- NIU (Revel)."

A spokesperson for Revel would not immediately confirm that Kapur was using one of the scooters, but said the company was "actively investigating" the situation.

"We are aware of reports that a moped rider passed away following an accident in New York City," a statement from the company reads. "Revel extends deepest sympathies to the rider’s family and loved ones for their loss."

Kapur's colleagues at CBS remembered her as a hard-working reporter with a "contagious smile and love for storytelling."

“We are heartbroken here at CBS2 as a member of our news family has passed away,” the station said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Nina’s family. She will be missed.”
