Police are looking for a man accused of not paying a livery cab driver for a ride and then punching him in the face.
According to the NYPD, the incident occurred this past Wednesday, March 5th, at 8 p.m. The livery cab driver, 47, picked up the male passenger on Madison Avenue in Manhattan, and the passenger asked to go to 710 Tinton Avenue in the Bronx. When they reached the destination, the passenger claimed his girlfriend was going to pay the driver. So the driver locked the passenger in.
The girlfriend then came out to pay the driver, police say, so the driver unlocked the doors. At that point, the passenger got out and told his girlfriend not to pay the driver. The driver started to follow the couple, and when he tried to take a picture of his free-loading fare, the passenger punched him in the face before fleeing. The driver was treated for injuries at a hospital.
The police released pictures of the passenger, described as being 5'6" and about 160 pounds.
Anyone with information in regards to this robbery is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS. The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers Website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM or texting their tips to 274637(CRIMES) then enter TIP577.
