- Rays 8, Yankees 6: Three batters into the game, the Yankees trailed, 3-0. Andy Pettitte made his worst start of the year, allowing seven runs in five-plus innings. The Yankees rallied to tie the game at 3 but wasted runners at second and third with no one out in the third. Tampa Bay now leads the American League East by five games and is showing no signs of slowing down. Carlos Pena -- the guy the Yankees kept in Triple-A to let Josh Phelps, Andy Phillips, Miguel Cairo and Doug Mientkiewicz play in 2007 -- had two homers. The Yankees visit the Mets for the first of three on Friday night.
- Mets 10, Nationals 7: The much-villified David Wright -- what is it about third basemen in this town -- hit a three-run double in his first at-bat and had four RBIs overall to lead the Mets. John Maine threw only five pitches before departing for "precautionary reasons." Raul Valdes pitched five innings of relief to pick up the win and helped the Mets finish this trip with a 3-6 mark. A four-run fifth in which Wright added a sacrifice fly -- helped blow it open.
- Crew 3, Red Bulls 1: That quick start is looking more and more like a mirage. The Red Bulls lost their third straight game.
