- Yankees 6, Blue Jays 4: By avoiding a losing streak, the Yankees extended their American League East lead to 8 1/2 games. Andy Pettitte labored through six innings of four-run ball. That included four walks. Robinson Cano and Mark Teixeira had homers for Yankees, who bounced back from being one-hit on Friday night. Derek Jeter's two hits move him seven away from breaking Lou Gehrig's all-time Yankees hit record. Sergio Mitre will start Sunday's finale.
- Cubs 5, Mets 3: For all the whining Mets fans do about how hard it is to hit home runs at Citi Field, visiting team sure don't have a problem. Derrek Lee hit two and Aramis Ramirez hit another. Nelson Figueroa took the loss, but Cory Sullivan homered for the second straight day.
- Andy Roddick's hopes of a second U.S. Open title are over for 2009. John Isner upset his countryman in five sets Saturday. Also bowing out were Maria Sharapova (to 17-year-old American Melanie Oudin) and top women's seed Dinara Safina (to Petra Kvitova.)
