Jorge Posada lost his job as the regular designated hitter, but he got the start Saturday. He didn't disappoint. With a two-run single and a grand slam among his three hits, Posada accuonted for six of the Yankees' nine runs in a 9-2 win over the Rays. The Yankees, who are virtually guaranteed to make the playoffs, got six strong innings from Phil Hughes, too. They lead the Rays by 8 1/2 games in the wild-card standings and will finish the series Sunday with A.J. Burnett pitching in the stead of Freddy Garcia, who cut a finger on his pitching hand.

After Mike Pelfrey left the game because he was hit by a batted ball, D.J. Carrasco came in and allowed a go-ahead three-run homer to Ryan Roberts as the D-backs took care of the Mets, 6-4. Pelfrey had an RBI single, Ruben Tejada a two-run double and Mike Baxter an RBI triple for the Mets runs.

Thierry Henry scored in the ninth minute, but the Red Bulls needed Joel Lindpere's equalizer in the 64th minute to salvage a share of the points in a 2-2 tie with the offensively named Chicago Fire. (Is it really that much different from calling a team the New Orleans Katrinas?)

Cappy Pondexter's 30 points weren't enough for the Liberty, who fell to the Fever, 82-71. Pop quiz: Where to the Fever play? The answer .... Indiana.
