Braves 6, Mets 5: The Mets trailed early in Sunday's game, but they chipped away at Atlanta's lead, eventually tying it in the seventh inning. Unfortunately, the Braves loaded the bases in the 9th inning for Chipper Jones, who came through like he often does against the Mets. Jones hit a single to give the Braves the winning run.
For the Mets, they lost more than just the game. Jose Reyes left the game in the 2nd inning with what's currently being called a mild pull of his left hamstring (the same one that was injured earlier this season) and Daniel Murphy left the game during the 7th inning when the Braves' Jose Constanza slid into him at second base. Murphy's left knee buckled and he had to be helped off the field. Murphy seems to be out for the season with a grade 2 tear of his left MCL.
Red Sox 3, Yankees 2 (10th innings): The Red Sox had the right pitcher going for them in their series finale against the Yankees — Josh Beckett, who entered the game 3-0 with a 0.86 ERA against New York this season. And while Beckett limited the Yankees to two runs over six innings, it took 9th inning magic for Beckett to get off the hook for the loss. Trailing 2-1 in the 9th inning, the Red Sox managed to tie the score off Mariano Rivera, sending the game to extra innings. In the 10th, Boston won the game on a single by Josh Reddick off of Phil Hughes. After taking two of three games in the series, the Red Sox end the weekend atop the AL East.
