Mets 9, Rockies 5: No, no. That wasn't the Carlos Beltran from several years ago. It is indeed 2011! Perhaps it was the thin air in Colorado, but Carlos Beltran showed flashes of his former self, with three home runs and six RBI. His three home runs came in the 1st, 7th and 9th innings, each with one runner on base. Beltran is the 8th Met to hit three home runs in a game and the first since Jose Reyes in 2006. Jon Niese picked up the win for the Mets despite allowing 5 runs over 6 1/3 innings. Beltran's record came on a day when New York rested David Wright and sent Ike Davis to the DL for ankle injuries. Replacing Davis on the roster is outfielder Fernando Martinez, who the Mets recalled from Buffalo.

Royals 11, Yankees 5: It had to happen at some point this season. With a loss against the Royals on Thursday, the Yankees lost their first home series of the season. Ivan Nova picked up the loss, allowing 8 runs (4 earned) and completed only three innings. The Yankees spotted Kansas City eight runs before scoring four in the 5th.
