- Yankees 11 Cleveland 2: Note to opposing teams, intentionally walk Mark Teixeira at your own risk. For the seventh time since Mark Teixeira joined the Yankees, the opposition chose to pitch around him and face A-Rod and for the seventh time A-Rod delivered. This time it was a grand slam that turned a 2-1 game into a much more comfortable 6-1 game. A-Rod is now 5-5 with 3 homers, a walk, a sac fly and 18 RBI’s when the opposition issues Teixeira an intentional walk. Robinson Cano followed with his own home run and Andy Pettitte handcuffed Cleveland over seven innings to earn his seventh win of the season.
- San Diego 18 Mets 6: Can we call it the curse of the translator? For the first time since he joined the Mets, Hisanori Takahashi was without his translator and the results were disastrous. He lasted only four innings and allowed six runs, putting the Mets in a 6-1 hole. The Mets got three runs back, but amazingly, Raul Valdes was worse than Takahashi, giving up two hits and three walks without recording an out. Jenrry Mejia managed limited the damage to two runs, but it was 10-4 San Diego after five innings. And things got really out of hand after that. The Padres put up six more runs against Ryota Igarashi in the sixth. The Mets were finally forced to turn to Oliver Perez and he was his usual self, allowing four hits and two runs in just over two innings of work and providing a fitting capper for an awful night.
