Down two games to none in their playoff series and without Amar'e Stoudemire, the Knicks needed a better performance at home in Game 3 against the Miami Heat. For three quarters, they put forth a better effort than the first two games (not saying much), but they fell apart in the fourth quarter of an 87-70 loss. The Knicks led by four at the half but scored only 30 points after intermission. Despite the belief he might benefit from Stoudemire's absence, Carmelo Anthony laid an egg. He shot 7-of-23 for 22 points, and had almost as many turnovers (five) as made baskets. The Knicks were outscored by 25 points with him on the floor. The Knicks have now lost an NBA-record 13 straight playoff games. They'll play for their season Sunday.
The Devils committed two penalties in overtime but still managed to escape with a 4-3 win over the Flyers. Alexei Ponikarovsky put home his own rebound with 2:39 left. Ilya Kovalchuk scored and assisted in his return after missing Game 2 with a lower-body injury. Patrik Elias and Zach Parise also had goals for New Jersey, which now leads the best-of-seven series two games to one. The Devils wasted leads of 2-1 and 3-2 but will look to take complete control of the series when they play Sunday.
