Tourists, you can almost leave the devastation of Hurricane Sandy. Though LaGuardia is very much still closed, JFK and Newark airports should be reopening right now, according to the Port Authority. Of course getting a flight out is another story!

In a late-night update last night the Authority put out this message regarding our local airports:

LaGuardia Airport is closed.

John F. Kennedy International Airport will be open tomorrow, Wednesday, October 31 at 7:00 a.m. however, carriers will be providing limited service.

Newark Liberty International Airport will be open tomorrow, Wednesday, October 31 at 7:00 a.m. however, carriers will be providing limited service.

Due to a power outage, the on-airport gas station (including CNG refueling) and all rental car facilities except for Avis will remain closed until further notice.

Teterboro Airport is closed.

Stewart International Airport is open, however travelers are urged to contact their airlines before coming to the airport to learn about potential delays and cancellations.

Of course, just because the airports are open doesn't mean that there are any planes to take you away from all this! According to reports this morning, "some 2,664 flights have been canceled in North America on Wednesday; 22 are already canceled for Thursday. The total number of flights canceled since Saturday hovers around 18,445." More than 7,000 flights were canceled yesterday alone. So it goes without saying that you'll want to check your flight's status before you head to the airport.
