For the second weekend in a row, New York City will be dry and pleasant.
The weather won't be awfully hot, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Brian Ciemnecki, who said New Yorkers can expect a mix of sun and clouds as well as highs in the low- to mid-80s. Ciemnecki said it looks like rain will show up Sunday evening, and continue into Monday.
The air quality index is good in New York City on Friday, with good-to-moderate air expected throughout the weekend — a breath of relief after Canadian wildfires caused near-record-high levels of air pollution earlier this month.
But if you want to make the most of the fresh air, here are a few suggestions:
Summer Streets: The annual celebration — with cars barred from several city streets on select Saturdays to make way for pedestrians — returns to Manhattan. You can walk the entire length of the island along included streets from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. — heading from the Brooklyn Bridge up to Broadway and Dyckman Street. There will be community groups, food vendors, art popups and other attractions. There’s a full lineup of musical performances at multiple rest stops.
You can still register for The New York Road Runners’ Start Line Series 5K in Manhattan, too. The race starts from Park Avenue at East 80th Street at 7:30 a.m., as a part of the Summer Streets celebration.
Listen to the music: There are always lots of concerts in the city during the summer — including free outdoor options. This weekend, that includes the annual Ghanafest-NY, at Crotona Park in the Bronx, with Ghanaian rapper Edem and DJ Andy Dosty from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday.
In Central Park for Summerstage Saturday are Argentinian singers Trueno and Milo J, as well as Dominican rapper J Noa, starting at 6 p.m. On Sunday, it’s Chinese pop with WayV, THE EITHER and Chopstix, starting at 7 p.m.
Reggae band Brooklyners will be at Riverside Park Saturday at 7 p.m. for a show sponsored by the Riverside Tennis Association.
Caribbean culture: Every first Saturday of the month, The Brooklyn Museum has free admission. This weekend’s program is "Where Brooklyn Meets the Caribbean," with music, music, talks, art-making and poetry by artists from across the Caribbean diaspora. An interactive workshop will also teach attendees about their rights under temporary protected status amid federal efforts to roll back protections.
Light the way: History buffs may want to check out the “Little Red Lighthouse” in Fort Washington Park for a free program led by NYC Parks Urban Park Rangers this Saturday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Registration is not required. As the city parks department notes, the Jeffrey's Hook lighthouse, is a literary landmark, featured in the "The Little Red Lighthouse and the Great Gray Bridge." It was erected in 1880 and moved to its current location in 1921. The city warns visitors may need to line up before entering the small structure due to its limited capacity inside.
Movies under the stars: It’s a great time to take in the city’s free summer film series. There are lots of options at locations throughout the boroughs, including “When Harry Met Sally” at the Asser Levy Recreation Center in Manhattan on Friday, or 2025's “Superman" at the Bowne Playground in Queens on Saturday. See the full lineup.
