The temperature today is all downhill as the high of 41 degrees happened about 8 a.m. An Arctic front will pass through the city any moment now, chilling us to the mid 20s by early evening and close to the single digits tomorrow morning. There's a slight chance of light flurries through the early afternoon hours, but that band of snow looks like it is dying as it hits the Catskills.
Arctic air is expected to hang around for a couple of days. Tuesday will be sunny but our high probably won't break 20 degrees. Wednesday is likely to be only a couple of degrees warmer but that couple of degrees mark the start of a warming trend. Look for Thursday to warm up to 30 degrees and Friday to high the mid 30s as the jet stream flattens out and the pool of cold air gets exhausted.
As of now the weather for Super Bowl weekend looks like about what you'd expect for early February. Temperatures are expected to be in the mid to upper 30s on Saturday and Sunday. The National Weather Service is throwing in a slight chance of rain or snow for Saturday but we're not buying that just yet. It is too early to have any confidence as to whether or not our beloved Staten Island Chuck will see his shadow on Sunday morning.
