A few weeks ago, the Post reported that the economy had forced the annual Village Halloween Parade to downsize from 11 floats last year to just three (there were 20-25 floats in more flush years). But then this week, the parade said there would be a dozen—and the parade's director is giving credit to the Post for helping make it a real parade.

Parade director Jeanne Fleming said, "The Post's article made such a difference. I was resigned to only having three floats, but everyone came through after reading the article." For instance, sponsor Monster Energy Drink, which had dropped out, had a change of heart, with its marketing manager saying, "When I read that the parade was suffering, I found a way to fit it into my budget." The Monster Energy Drink float will have a "live band, scantily clad girls and ghouls covered in body paint."

The parade travels up Sixth Avenue from Spring Street starting at 7 p.m., winding up at 21st Street, but Sixth Avenue is closed at Canal through 21st. Bars are especially excited, since it's not just Halloween on a Saturday night—it's also daylight savings! And you can share your spooktacular photographs with us—email them to [email protected] or tag them "gothamist" on Flickr.
