After a costly four-year legal battle with NYC Transit, suspended conductor Jack Grissett (not pictured) can finally come back to work and start crackin' skulls again! The whole saga started back in April 2006 at the Queens Flushing-Main Street terminal, where 21 year MTA vet Grissett decided to put the hurt on some punk who was hating on the 7 line.
According the Daily News, conductor Grissett got into a "tiff" with a passenger on the platform. "Grissett is accused of calling the man a homosexual slur, prompting the man to call Grissett's late father the same name." But what this punk didn't know was that only Grissett can call someone a "homosexual slur" and that no one makes fun of his daddy. Grissett then "forcefully" put his hands on the man or, according to The Post was just being good ol' Jack, with his "history of being too hands-on with passengers."
The case went all the way to the state's highest court, which refused to knock down an arbitrator's 2006 decision that firing the conductor would be "excessive" punishment. In the end the arbitrator ruled that two months without pay—not firing—was sufficient punishment. Oh, also, Grisset gets to go back to work with about $150,000 in back pay. Well, we suppose until they start making Rubber Room Subway cars, this is how these matters will be settled.
