A former charter school teacher has been indicted for allegedly raping one his students at her home this spring while her family was away, the Bronx District Attorney’s office said.

William Jones, 32, was arraigned Thursday in Bronx Supreme Criminal Court on multiple charges of rape, sexual misconduct, disseminating indecent material to a minor and endangering a child’s welfare, prosecutors said.

Jones is accused of repeatedly raping a 13-year-old girl, who was in one of his math classes, between late April and early June, according to the DA’s office. He also allegedly sent the student explicit text messages with photos and videos of male genitals.

“The defendant engaged in disturbing and predatory conduct, made worse by the fact that he is a schoolteacher entrusted with the care and safety of students,” Bronx DA Darcel Clark said in a statement. “Exploitation of the young and vulnerable will not be tolerated.”

Prosecutors said the girl’s sister eventually found Jones and the girl getting dressed together at the family’s home. Her mother then found the explicit text messages on the girl’s phone, leading the American Dream Charter School in Mott Haven to confirm the sender’s number was Jones’ and the mother to contact police, according to law enforcement officials.

Prosecutors said Jones resigned after learning of the investigation. He was arrested on June 11, court records show.

His attorney could not immediately be reached early Friday. Neither could representatives for the American Dream Charter School, where prosecutors say he taught seventh-grade math.

Jones was released on bail and is due back in court on Oct. 14, according to the DA’s office.
