A little dance between a weak front running into a hot and humid air mass put on a nice lightning show just west of the city last night. That solar-driven thunderstorm couldn't quite make it across the Hudson once the sun began to set. However, the passage of the front is bringing some slightly cooler and drier weather today. Look for a high in the upper 80s and dew points in the upper 60s this afternoon. That's not really all that dry or cool but it's more comfortable than the electricity-devouring steambath weather we had this weekend. A few showers might pop up this afternoon as another weak front runs into the sea breeze circulation.

We can expect more of the same warm and humid weather tomorrow and for much of the week. Tomorrow will be pretty much a repeat of today while Wednesday is currently expected to be slightly warmer. Wednesday will also have the best chance of showers and thunderstorms as a cold front languorously approaches from the west. It looks like the front will bring cooler weather, possibly on Thursday but more likely on Friday. By cooler we mean mid 80s on Thursday and low to mid 80s on Friday. The chance of showers can't be ruled out through the weekend.

Three 90-degree days over the weekend brings this year's total up to eight days. That's just about the long-term average through early July. What's not normal is the morning low temperatures. The average low is in the upper 60s right now but the temperature in Central Park hasn't dipped below 70 degrees in more than two weeks. Depending on the timing of the frontal passage later in the week Friday morning may be dry enough to cool below 70 but that looks like our only chance in the next ten days.
