Bring on the heat! A Bermuda high is edging northward and that is promising to make today and tomorrow the two warmest days of the year so far. We should warm to the upper 80s today under mostly sunny skies. The record high for today is 92. If that's too hot for you, nature's air conditioner, the sea breeze, will keep the temperature in the 70s right along the immediate coastline.
By tomorrow the Bermuda high will have pushed a deep layer of hot, humid, subtropical air our way. Thursday's high is expected to reach 90 degrees. If it gets that hot, tomorrow will tie the record set in 1936 and will be the first time the temperature has hit 90 in Central Park since the middle of last September. The thick layer of subtropical air will render the sea breeze ineffective and may be sufficient to produce widely scattered showers or thunderstorms north of the city.
A cold front is expected to move through the region on Friday. The timing of that passage is still uncertain. A passage early in the day will keep Friday's high to the lower 80s but a later arrival will give the sun time to heat things up to the upper 80s. Much cooler weather will filter in behind the front. Weekend highs will be in the upper 60s under mostly sunny skies.
