Thanks to the recent cold spell our record-breaking streak of 17 consecutive warmer-than-normal months is in jeopardy. Through yesterday December was running 2.1 degrees colder than average. To keep the streak alive the last eleven days of the month will have to stay about four degrees warmer than normal. And that is not outside the realm of possibility, given how the atmosphere is shaping up for the next week or two.
The temperature held steady overnight as high pressure to the south pushes warmer air our way. That push should warm the city to the mid 40s this afternoon, which is a couple degrees above normal for the winter solstice. An upper level disturbance will make for a cloudy day tomorrow, with a slight chance of showers, but temperatures might again sneak up to the mid 40s.
A series of fronts are expected to form tomorrow night through early next week. None of these fronts look like big weather makers, but we could see some rain early on Saturday and again on Monday or Tuesday. In between both Friday and Sunday should be mostly sunny. Daily highs should remain in the mid 40s early on before starting to climb toward the upper 40s on Christmas and maybe reaching 50 degrees early next week.
