Drizzly weather overnight pushed this month's rainfall total in Central Park to 5.48 inches. That's our wettest month since last July, when slightly over seven inches of rain fell. We could see some light sprinkles this afternoon, but it will generally be cloudy with a high in the upper 60s. However, much more is expected over the next couple of days and for a good portion of the long weekend.
An upper level low will be sitting to our west for the next few days, and that spells rain for much of the northeastern US. Tomorrow looks like the wettest day, with showers and possibly a thunderstorm producing up to an inch of rain. A steady and strong northeasterly wind could produce coastal flooding along the Jersey Shore and Staten Island, over to Long Island and up through eastern Connecticut. Temperatures will hold steady in the lower to mid 60s.
The rain is expected to taper off on Friday as the surface low moves out to sea and weak high pressure arrives. Saturday looks to be the nicest day by far of the Memorial Day weekend, with mostly sunny skies and a high in the lower 70s. But cooler, wetter, weather will return on Sunday as a slow moving cold front arrives. The forecasts for Monday are currently all over the place, but early indications are that it will be warm with possibly a few showers.
