Unfortunately the holiday weekend is going to start with some lousy weather. New York is on the southern edge of a bunch of moisture being swirled around by a big low pressure system over Newfoundland. A smaller disturbance over the Great Lakes is riding along that moisture stream and will cause enough of a ruckus to kick up some scattered showers and thunderstorms from this afternoon through tomorrow night. This afternoon's thunderstorms might produce some small hail, but they shouldn't be as strong as the possible tornado that struck upstate yesterday. The thick layer of clouds will keep today's high to the upper 60s or lower 70s.
Tomorrow's weather looks like a near duplicate of today's. The chance of showers and thunderstorms will be slightly less, and it may be a degree or two warmer, but that's about the most optimistic thing about Saturday's forecast.
Improvements begin on Sunday when a big ridge of high pressure over the Midwest expands eastward. There will still be a slight chance for showers but we should see more sun than clouds and a high in the upper 70s. Mostly sunny skies and a high in the lower 80s are expected on Monday. The warm weather should stick around for an extended period with highs in the mid to upper 70s all next week... and look at what AccuWeather is predicting for next Sunday.
