A strong cold front passed through the city last night, dropping the dew point from the mid 50s to mid 30s in a matter of hours. The cool, dry air mass behind the front will keep this afternoon's high to the lower 60s which is about normal for mid-October.

Tonight we'll see a good example of radiational cooling as the clear, dry skies and light winds will allow the temperature to drop below freezing in the mid-Hudson Valley, inland Connecticut and central New Jersey. Low temperatures in the city won't be anywhere close to freezing as the urban heat island and the warm ocean waters will keep us from cooling much below the upper 40s.

Cool weather won't last long. As the high pressure system moves offshore winds will start coming out of the southeast tomorrow afternoon warming us to the mid 60s. Sunday's high will be closer to 70 and it is not entirely out of the question that we could hit 80 next Wednesday. Except for maybe a passing shower on Monday morning there is almost no chance of significant rain for at least the next week.
