Fire Commissioner Salvatore Cassano announced yesterday that the FDNY will have to close 20 companies to save $37 million, and left the City Council with a warning. "There is no way around this: closing 20 companies will impact our service and impact everyone in this city." Cassano couldn't say which companies must close, since the FDNY is still determining which closures would have the least impact on the city. Some companies nearly closed last year before the City Council found enough cash to keep them alive for another 12 months.
