It’s Thursday afternoon in New York City, where East Harlem residents want the Second Avenue subway to expand, but don’t want the congestion pricing tolls that would fund it.
Here’s what else is happening:
- Lightning struck the Sea Turtle Recovery Hospital at New Jersey’s Turtle Back Zoo last night, which caused the building to catch fire.
- Federal regulators warned the New Jersey Department of Transportation that silly highway advisory signs are distracting to drivers, but that’s not stopping NJDOT from putting up more of them.
- Brooklyn prosecutors say two software developers raked in more than $1 million by creating two apps that manipulated Uber’s surge pricing system.
- New York City public school nurses will now be required to undergo suicide prevention training.
- Tompkins Square Park is getting a new in-ground pool that will have double the capacity of its current pool.
- Foot Locker is saying goodbye to New York City and moving its headquarters to Florida, citing high costs.
- Ludacris, a self-proclaimed “water snob,” sparked concern from fans after posting a video of himself drinking water from an Alaskan glacier. Experts say he's probably fine.
- And finally, what do you call that noise?
