- Shot: the NY Times reports that experts say it is unlikely you can get re-infected by COVID-19. Chaser: the Washington Post reports that doctors are unsure if that's actually true.
- Stephen Miller's grandmother has died of COVID-19, and his uncle blames the Trump administration (and Miller). However, the White House denies she died of COVID...even though it's on the death certificate.
- Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez gave a truly inspiring speech today in response to Rep. Ted Yoho calling her a "fucking bitch" and then not apologizing for it: “This issue is not about one incident. It is cultural...of accepting a violence and violent language against women, an entire structure of power that supports that.”
- David Roth remains one of the essential chroniclers of Trump's presidency and this idiotic time for the country, and this is one of his best pieces yet on it: "He has had exactly the presidency that his public life would suggest—a brazen win, followed by an inevitable decline born of laziness and pure hubristic dipshittery, and finally a catastrophic and vehemently denied collapse. This is the story of his life, and the story of his presidency."
- A federal judge has ordered that Michael Cohen be released from prison after finding that he was reincarcerated as retaliation by the White House for writing a tell-all book about Trump.
- Governor Andrew Cuomo reiterated his defense of the state's updated outdoor dining/drinking policy: “To be a bar, you had to have food available — soups, sandwiches, etc. More than just hors d’oeuvres, chicken wings. You had to have some substantive food — the lowest level of substantive food were sandwiches.”
- Vice offers 21 ideas on ways to safely see your friends this summer.
- Cancel culture, the Harper's letter, blah blah blah—the real horrorshow is this paragraph from the Washington Post's report on the debate: "[Bari Weiss] has been organizing secret dinners at Manhattan’s Comedy Cellar for like-minded personalities to hash out their disagreements in private. One such gathering ended up at the Brooklyn home of writer Katie Roiphe, merrily dubbed a 'Thought Crimes' party, where everything that was discussed, as well as the list of attendees, was off the record. The party went to 2 a.m., Roiphe said, and everyone had a great time."
- If you go to Prospect Park, watch out for the duckweed which looks like grass.
- The Justice Department's independent watchdog agency said that it will investigate the use of force by federal law enforcement officers in Portland, Oregon, and Washington, D.C.
- Twitter may not be free forever: CEO Jack Dorsey said the company is looking into a subscription model.
- Listen to two lovely outtakes from Andy Shauf's fantastic 2020 album The Neon Skyline.
- And finally, this dog is far more talented than I will ever be:
