Good Tuesday afternoon in New York City, where the Prospect Park Zoo is about to reopen after suffering severe flooding damage.
Here's what else is happening:
- "The odds do not favor an upset by Myrie," writes Errol Louis in this otherwise flattering column about New York state Sen. Zellnor Myrie's bid to unseat Mayor Eric Adams.
- An American Museum of Natural History curator who said he was doing research with Turkish scientists was detained at the Istanbul airport and accused of trying to smuggle 1,500 spider, tarantula and scorpion samples out of Turkey.
- The Long Island Rail Road has finally received the last of its M9 electric trains — deemed "unicorns" because they're rare — about five years after they were all originally scheduled to hit the rails.
- Canadian short story master and Nobel Prize winner Alice Munro has died at the age of 92.
- Academic publisher Wiley, which has retracted more than 11,000 scientific articles over the past two years due to research fraud, is shuttering 19 of its journals.
- Red Lobster, which is on the verge of bankruptcy, is shuttering 88 of its restaurants, including four in New Jersey and one on Long Island.
- Zayn Malik of One Direction fame said he got kicked off Tinder because the dating app thought he was a scammer using a photo of Zayn.
- Happy 20th birthday to amNewYork!
- And finally, hell yeah, brother:
