It’s Tuesday afternoon in New York City where results from a Siena College poll show New Yorkers feel the quality of life in the state is worsening.
The issue was common ground for Democrats, Republicans and Independents in the state with 57% of respondents agreeing. And the biggest problem contributing to the poor quality of life is the cost of living, according to 80% of survey participants.
Here’s what else is happening:
- Following an uptick in violent attacks on MTA bus drivers, the agency is testing out a new partition to be installed on buses. Dubbed the “cockpit,” the barrier will be put in place between the driver and the public. This past week alone, four MTA bus drivers have been attacked on the job, according to officials.
- In other transit news, a proposal for an interborough rail line between Brooklyn and Queens moved one step forward last night as the MTA laid out their plan to build a light rail almost entirely on existing freight rail lines.
- The NYC Parks Department is keeping a sharp eye on a new $800,000 artificial turf field installed in Brooklyn's Cadman Plaza Park and ticketing those who disobey the no-dog rule. One man with a puppy on the field was led away in handcuffs.
- New York City is oversaturated with high school kids who are applying to top colleges, so some parents are apparently packing up and moving to rural parts of the country to give their children a better shot.
- President Joe Biden is in town this week and one of his stops last night included a Broadway theater where a fundraiser was being held in his honor. Biden told the theater audience he was running for reelection because Donald Trump was determined to destroy the nation.
- The City Council is considering removing public art on city property that depicts "a person who owned enslaved persons or directly benefited economically from slavery, or who participated in systemic crimes against indigenous peoples or other crimes against humanity.”
- Five bills related toincreasing access to and education about menstrual products for NYC school students and people who are incarcerated were scrutinized by the City Council on Monday.
- And finally, dachshunds just make anything look adorable:
