It’s Thursday afternoon in New York City, where hot garbage smells worse this year.
Here’s what else is happening:
- Speaking of garbage, the city's Department of Sanitation wants you to snitch on your messy neighbors through its “Sidewalk Slobs” program. If a property owner is particularly bad at cleaning up their sidewalks, they just might end up in the DSNY Hall of Fame (and fined pretty heavily).
- Ever wanted to take a Buzzfeed-style quiz to find out which NYC beach is best for you? The parks department has you covered.
- Unlike the city’s hundreds of other public schools, specialized high schools including Stuyvesant and Brooklyn Tech aren’t required to set aside seats for students with disabilities and some have discouraged students with learning disabilities from attending.
- What do Brooklynites do when a battered sex doll potentially worth thousands of dollars shows up on the corner of a Bushwick street? They build a memorial around it, complete with a Pride flag, beverages and prayer candles.
- Southwest Airlines will finally start assigning seats after half a century of running on an open-boarding system.
- YouTube influencer MrBeast says he's having investigators look into allegations that his former cohost, Ava Kris Tyson, sent inappropriate messages to a 13-year-old when she was 20. Tyson denied the claims but apologized for her “past behavior.”
- Skilled craftspeople are so back.
- And finally, Guignard knows what's up:
