It’s Monday afternoon in New York City and a new investigation into the making of bacon might make you want to never touch it again.
I must admit, I tried hard to finish reading this piece explaining the inner workings of the pork industry, but I just couldn’t stomach it. I’m not sure turkey bacon would be a better choice either.
Here’s what else is happening:
- A skyscraper jail going up in Chinatown to replace “The Tombs” will be the tallest jail in the world standing at 300 feet tall with 45 stories and spanning 1.25 million square feet.
- An East New York MTA bus depot has been having trouble with its fire suppression system for more than a year, which means they need to employ a fire patrol to stand guard to the tune of $2.4 million.
- It’s not clear whether Rudy Guiliani is saying goodbye to NYC altogether or just to his Upper East Side co-op apartment which was just listed for $6.5 million.
- It should come as no surprise that New York ranked as the worst state financially for delivery drivers as monthly salaries don't even cover the essentials.
- Another non-surprising study finding: U.S. doctors are really raking in the dough, with the average doctor earning $350,000 a year. But those high salaries are actually likely due to a national doctor shortage.
- Anna Netrebko, a Russian opera singer, is suing the Metropolitan Opera, alleging defamation, after she was dropped following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
- A New York trio achieved the world record for the fastest time to travel to all NYC ferry stops, clocking in at 7 hr 47 min 9 sec.
- And finally, how can I get this Uber ride?
