Early Saturday morning, a Brooklyn Assistant District Attorney was arrested after he allegedly attacked an EMT worker who was trying to bring him to the hospital. Michael Jaccarino, 30, has been charged with second-degree assault, criminal obstruction of breathing, menacing and harassment after he allegedly attacked a 46-year-old EMT Teresa Soler. The attack was so bad, Soler didn't know if she was going to survive it: “She couldn’t pass air and thought she was going to die,” Israel Miranda, president of the EMTs union, told the Post.
An allegedly drunk Jaccarino was crossing Brooklyn Bridge on foot around 1 a.m. Saturday when an ambulance picked him up; someone had called 911 about a highly intoxicated man. After being confronted on the Manhattan side of the pedestrian path, Jaccarino voluntarily got into the ambulance to go to Beth Israel Medical Center. But once inside, he allegedly took off his seatbelt, then slapped and choked Soler. She suffered bruising to her chest, face and wrist, including a black eye.
Brooklyn district attorney spokesman Jerry Schmetterer said Jaccarino has worked for the office as an assistant district attorney since 2008. “He’s been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation,” he added.
